How to make Gmail look like Outlook using Labs!

Laguna Beach Unified School District Mail Labs: Some crazy experimental stuff.

Laguna Beach Unified School District Mail Labs is a testing ground for experimental features that aren't quite ready for primetime. They may change, break or disappear at any time. There are a few labs that will change the appearance of your Gmail to look a bit more like Outlook.  Listed below are instructions for enabling labs.

If (when) a Labs feature breaks, and you're having trouble loading your inbox, there's an escape hatch. Use https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?labs=0.

Go to the Settings Gear

1. Click on the Gear Settings button
2. Go to Settings

Go to the Labs Tab

1. Click on Labs

Enable the following Google Labs

1. Enable Google Calendar gadget
2. Enable Preview Pane
3. Enable Right-side chat

Google Calendar gadget and Right-side chat will automatically populate on your Gmail account. To set Preview Pane view please follow the steps below.

There may be other Labs you might find helpful and would like to try, please feel free to explore and enable or disable any Lab you might find helpful. Just remember, Labs may change, break or disappear at any time.

Set Preview Pane mode

In the upper right hand corner by the setting button you will see the Preview Pane icon.

1. Click the down arrow next to the Preview Pane button.
2. Select Vertical Split or Horizontal Split.
